improving fluctuating target detection using high range resolution stepped frequency radars

چکیده
one of the problems in detecting radar targets is the variation of target cross section due to aspect angle; which is named as target fluctuation. this perfectly depends on target geometry and transmitted wavelength and can cause significant loss of detection. one of the solutions to this is improving the radar range resolution. stepped frequency is one of the signals that can improve the range resolution. in this paper we introduce this radar signal and explain its processing technique. then we investigate improving detection of fluctuating target in this radar. to do this, we first introduce three methods for modeling of range distributed targets. then suggest two detectors for detecting these targets. finally it is shown that distribution of target due to high range resolution can compensate the target fluctuation loss completely.

moving target detection in stepped frequency radars using compressive sensing
stepped frequency radars attract many attentions due to their high range resolution. conventional processing technique in these radars is based on the idft. in detecting moving targets, the idft has the problems of range shifting and range spreading, which result in degrading target amplitude, loss of range accuracy and range resolution. to overcome these problems, the velocity compensation met...
متن کاملdetection of moving targets in stepped-frequency radars using dcft
one of the most common signals used for achieving high range resolution in radar is stepped-frequency signals. when a target is stationary in these radars, dft (discrete fourier transform) based processing is used to attain high range resolution profile (hrrp). however, in the case of moving target, due to spreading of the echo signal spectrum, dft based processing is not optimal and decreases ...
متن کاملHigh resolution time-frequency distributions for maneuvering target detection in over-the-horizon radars
A novel high-resolution time–frequency representation method is proposed for source detection and classification in over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) systems. A data-dependent kernel is applied in the ambiguity domain to capture the target signal components, which are then resolved using root-MUSIC based coherent spectrum estimation. This two-step procedure is particularly effective for analysing a...

This paper presents an overview of recent progress of radar for the image detection and characterization of targets. MIMO radar can improve on conventional target detection, parameter identification, and target classification performance via diversity of, among other things, its simultaneously transmitted waveforms. However, the mutual interference among the waveforms may lead to considerable p...

A novel weighted l2,1 minimisation algorithm for a high range resolution profile with stepped frequency radar is proposed. The raw stepped frequency pulse train is converted into jointly sparse multiple measurement vectors by using the sliding window technique. Then, by using the Capon cepstrum a support-related weighting matrix is designed to control the priority class of bases in the reconstr...
متن کاملHigh Range Resolution Profiling for Stepped-Frequency Radar with Sparse Reconstruction
The newly emerging theory of compressed sensing (CS) enables restore of a sparse signal from inadequate number of linear projections. Based on compressed sensing theory, a new strategy of high-resolution range profiling of stepped-frequency (SF) radar with missing pulses is proposed. If a certain part of received pulses are missing, we demonstrate the proposed method is capable of reconstructin...
